Welcome to the Northern Film School
at Leeds Met
The Northern Film School has a long history in the North of England. It has been based in Leeds since 1991, originally as the Northern School of Film and Television, and has grown from the early days as part of fine art provision through to the present day Northern Film School, with two undergraduate and two post-graduate degrees and an established base at the Electric Press building on Millennium Square, Leeds.
We believe in learning through practice and all our courses are based on that premise. The School functions as a studio with students developing, pitching, writing and producing fiction, documentary, animation, music videos, commercials, both in-house and for external clients. Take some time to explore our website - we have courses in Film and Moving Image production tailored for all levels of ability and experience.
Our Skillset Accredited MA Screenwriting course is among the very best courses in the country and together with our MA Film & Moving Image Production course, has an alumni of award-winning filmmakers spread around the globe.
Our Foundation Degree in Film & Television Production is a two year course which welcomes applications from non-traditional learners who want to immerse themselves in practical aspects of production with plenty of work placements built into the course. The BA (Hons) Film & Moving Image Production is also a highly practical course, but with a strong basis in the traditional ethics of a fine arts degree, reflecting the history of the Northern Film School.
The Northern Film School is alive with creativity and excitement, with students working across courses in a diverse, international mix of gender, ethnicity and age, unlocking the creative aspirations and talents of those who hold the future of cinema and television.
We invite you to come and join us.
