Cert HE / FdA
Film & Television Production
"I love filmmaking, and I love the process. And I would rather do nothing else. It's a privilege to be able to paint such big pictures, so to speak." Bryan Singer
Throughout this two year course there is a strong emphasis on work-based learning and career planning, including four weeks' worth of placement within the industry at both levels, aimed at helping you get a foot on the industry ladder.
"Good sound people are almost audio psychologists," Scott Gershin
At Level 1 you have the chance to try out all of the various roles by taking part in a number of mini-productions and taster workshops. You are then able to specialise in two of the following areas: Scriptwriting, Camera, Sound, Editing, Directing, Producing, Production Design and Animation and you will work on short production exercises.
In Level 2 students' own production projects form the backbone of the year and you are enabled to extend your specialist subjects immediately prior to carrying out these roles on your Graduation Films.
Once you have graduated, successful FdA students can progress onto Level 3 of the BA (Hons) Film & Moving Image Production.
"Cinematography is infinite in its possibilities... much more so than music or language." Conrad Hall
There is a strong element of practical assessment and this is backed up with a combination of presentations, study projects, assignments, and production files and storyboards where appropriate..
Career Opportunities: The course is specifically designed to provide an academic framework whilst also giving our students daily access to practising tutors and visiting industry professionals. This balance offers our graduates real prospects of making contacts and obtaining work in the industry on graduation.
The personal qualities we are looking for in all applicants include creativity, original thinking, entrepreneurialism, teamwork, the ability to take direction, the ability to learn by doing, ambition, and a challenging nature.
